This cocktail combines the sweet and slightly tart flavour of sloe gin with the crispness of lemon juice and the botanical notes of gin, creating a harmonious blend that’s both refreshing and complex. The addition of homemade juniper syrup adds a layer of aromatic depth that enhances the gin’s natural juniper berry essence.
Ingredients:
- 50ml Sloe Gin
- 25ml Lemon juice
- 25ml Gin
- Ice (crushed and cubes)
For the juniper syrup:
- 100g white caster sugar
- 1 tablespoon juniper berries
Method:
For the juniper syrup:
Place 100g white caster sugar, 1 tablespoon crushed juniper berries and 100ml water in a small saucepan.
Bring to the boil over a medium heat, stirring until the sugar has dissolved.
Leave to simmer for a few minutes, then remove from the heat and allow to steep for about 15 minutes.
Strain the syrup through a fine sieve to remove the juniper berries and leave to cool.
For the cocktail:
Fill a shaker with ice.
Add 50ml Sloe Gin, 25ml lemon juice, 25ml gin and 25ml of the juniper syrup you have just made.
Shake well until the outside of the shaker feels cold.
Strain the mixture into a glass filled with crushed ice.
Garnish with a lemon twist or fresh berries if desired.
