Oatmeal with Caramelized Apples

A perfect breakfast for a great start to the day.

Ingredients

  • oats 1 cup
  • milk 3 cups
  • sugar 3 tablespoons (or to taste)

Caramelized Apples

  • apples 2 (preferably firm and tart)
  • sugar 2 tablespoons (or to taste)
  • cinnamon

Preparation

Oatmeal: Place the oats in a pot and rinse several times, changing the water each time. Drain, add the milk, a pinch of salt, and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat and cook until soft for about 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Sweeten with sugar. If the oatmeal is too thick, add more milk.

Meanwhile, prepare the apples. Caramelized Apples: Peel the apples, quarter them, and remove the cores. Cut the apples into small cubes, place them in a pot, add sugar, and cook, stirring occasionally, for about 15 minutes or until the apples soften. Toward the end, add cinnamon (about 1 teaspoon). Spoon the oatmeal into bowls, add the apples, and optionally sprinkle with brown sugar or drizzle with maple syrup.
