Homemade Toffee Apples

Homemade Toffee Apples

Homemade Toffee Apples are a nostalgic and festive treat, perfect for Halloween, bonfire nights or any special occasion. The crisp tang of Granny Smith apples pairs beautifully with the sweet and crunchy toffee coating, creating a delightful contrast of flavours and textures.

Ingredients:

  • 8 Granny Smith apples
  • 400g golden caster sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vinegar (white or cider)
  • 4 tbsp golden syrup
  • 200ml water

Method:

Wash and dry the apples thoroughly. Insert a wooden stick or skewer into the stem end of each apple. Set aside on a baking tray lined with greaseproof paper.

Combine the golden caster sugar, vinegar, golden syrup and water in a heavy-bottomed saucepan. Stir over a low heat until the sugar is completely dissolved.

Increase the heat and bring to the boil without stirring. Use a candy thermometer to check the temperature. Cook until the toffee reaches the hard crack stage, which is about 150°C (300°F).

When the toffee has reached the desired temperature, remove the pan from the heat. Carefully dip each apple into the hot toffee, tilting the pan if necessary to coat the apple evenly. Allow any excess to drip back into the pan.

Place each coated apple back on the greaseproof paper-lined baking tray to cool and harden. Work quickly as the toffee sets quickly.

Once the toffee has set, your homemade toffee apples are ready to serve and enjoy!
