Apple-Spice Angel Food Cake

cake

Angel food cake is a light and airy dessert made primarily from whipped egg whites, sugar, and flour. It has a delicate texture and is often served with fresh fruit, whipped cream, or a dusting of powdered sugar. The cake is fat-free and low in calories, making it a guilt-free treat for those watching their diet.

Ingredients:

  • 1 package (16 ounces) angel food cake mix
  • 1 cup water
  • 2/3 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped pecans, toasted
  • 1 teaspoon apple pie spice
  • reduced-fat whipped topping and/or apple slices (optional)

Method:

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

In a large bowl, combine the angel food cake mix and water. Beat on low speed for 30 seconds, then beat on medium speed for 1 minute.

Fold in the unsweetened applesauce, finely chopped pecans, and apple pie spice. Mix gently until well combined.

Spoon the batter into an ungreased 10-inch tube pan or a deep 10-inch bundt pan.

Cut through the batter with a knife to remove any air pockets.

Bake on the lowest oven rack for 35-45 minutes or until the top is lightly browned and the entire surface appears dry.

Immediately invert the pan onto a wire rack and allow the cake to cool completely (about 1 hour). This step helps the cake release from the pan.

Run a knife around the side and center tube of the pan to loosen the cake. Remove the cake from the pan and place it on a serving plate.

Garnish with reduced-fat whipped topping and/or apple slices if desired.
