Chocolate Mousse

Chocolate Mousse

How to make chocolate mousse? If you’re wondering, here is the perfect solution. This chocolate mousse is a delicious dessert on its own, and with strawberries, it will be irresistible. It can also be used as a filling for pastries or a topping for cakes.

Ingredients

  • Dark chocolate or semi-sweet chocolate (50% cocoa) – 200 g
  • Water – 3 tablespoons
  • Brandy or orange liqueur (or another favorite liqueur) – 3 tablespoons
  • Butter – 3 tablespoons
  • Eggs – 4, separated into yolks and whites
  • Sea salt – a small pinch
  • Sugar – 3 tablespoons

Optional Flavors
If you want the mousse to have a more distinctive taste:

  • Ground spice mix (e.g., for the holiday season) – 1 teaspoon
  • Ground cinnamon – 1/3 teaspoon
  • Ground chili – a pinch

Preparation

To start, place the broken chocolate pieces into a saucepan with a heavy bottom. Add the water, liqueur, spice mix, cinnamon, and chili if using. Heat over low heat, stirring until the chocolate melts completely, then remove from heat immediately.

Add the butter and mix vigorously. Add the egg yolks one at a time, mixing well with a spoon after each addition.

Wash the eggs and then pour boiling water over the shells to sanitize them. In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites with the salt until stiff peaks form. Gradually add the sugar while continuing to beat until the meringue is thick. Gently fold the meringue into the chocolate mixture in 3 parts, mixing carefully each time.

Spoon the mousse into 6 cups, glasses, or other small containers, leaving about 2 cm of space at the top. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 3 hours or overnight. The mousse can be stored in the fridge for up to 5 days or frozen for up to 1 month.

If you are using chocolate glaze, melt chocolate with jam and cream, then drizzle over the mousse and chill. Before serving, you can top with whipped cream, chocolate shavings, or a sprinkle of spice mix.
