A classic apple pie on shortcrust pastry is a dessert that one can never get enough of! The combination of flaky pastry and juicy apples with a hint of cinnamon is a treat for the taste buds of all those who appreciate the wonderful taste of homemade pies.
Ingredients
Shortcrust Pastry:
- All-purpose flour: 4 cups
- Butter: 300 g
- Powdered sugar: 1 cup
- Egg yolks: 6 pieces
- Baking powder: 1 teaspoon
Apple Filling:
- Apples: 9 pieces
- Water: 1/2 cup
- Sugar: 1 cup
- Potato starch: 2 tablespoons
- Cinnamon: 2 teaspoons
Additionally:
- Bread crumbs: 3 tablespoons
- Powdered sugar: 1/2 cup
Preparation
- Combine and knead all the ingredients for the shortcrust pastry dough. Divide it into two parts. Set aside in the refrigerator for about an hour.
- Meanwhile, prepare the apple filling: peel and slice the apples into thin slices.
- In a saucepan, pour water and add the prepared apples. Cook over medium heat for about 15 minutes. Then add sugar, cinnamon, and potato starch, mix well. Cook for another 2 minutes.
- Line a baking dish with parchment paper. Roll out or grate one part of the dough into the bottom of the baking dish. Pre-bake for 10 minutes in an oven preheated to 180°C.
- Then sprinkle the pre-baked pastry base with breadcrumbs to absorb moisture from the apples and spread the apple filling over it.
- Finally, grate the second part of the dough on top.
- Bake the pie in the oven for about an hour at 180°C. Let it cool and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
