cake

A delicious Strawberry Trifle with Angel Food Cake recipe combines layers of light, fluffy angel food cake, sweet, juicy strawberries and heavenly whipped cream. It’s a refreshing and indulgent dessert perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients:

  • Fresh strawberries
  • Angel food cake
  • Heavy cream
  • Granulated Sugar
  • Lemon juice and zest
  • Kosher Salt
  • Grand Marnier (optional)

Method:

Prepare the strawberries:

Wash the strawberries and remove the leaves, stem and tough bits under the stem.

Slice the strawberries and place in a bowl. Sprinkle with a little sugar and leave to soak to release the juices.

Whip the cream:

Place a mixing bowl and electric beater or whisk in the fridge or freezer to chill.

Whip the heavy cream in the chilled bowl until stiff peaks form. Add a touch of sugar to taste.

Assemble the trifle:

Cut the angel food cake into 1cm cubes.

In a separate bowl, beat the cream cheese, orange zest, sugar and ¼ cup orange juice until light and fluffy.

Fold in the whipped cream to make a creamy mixture.

Drain the strawberries, reserving the juice.

Place half of the cake cubes in the bottom of a trifle dish.

Drizzle with half of the reserved strawberry juice.

Top with one-third of the cream cheese mixture and half of the sliced strawberries.

Repeat the layers: cake cubes, strawberry juice, cream cheese mixture, and strawberries.

Finish with a final layer of cake cubes and the remaining cream cheese mixture.

Chill and Serve:

Cover the trifle and refrigerate for at least 2 hours (or overnight) to allow the flavors to meld.

Just before serving, garnish with additional sliced strawberries and a sprinkle of lemon zest.

Optional: If using Grand Marnier, drizzle a little over the top for extra flavour.
