Apple pie is one of the most popular desserts around the world. Try this simple recipe to make a dessert that will impress everyone.
Ingredients
- Flour – 350 g
- Butter – 250 g
- Baking powder – 1.5 teaspoons
- Powdered sugar – 70 g
- Egg – 1
- Vanilla pudding mix – 1 package
- Milk – 0.5 liters
- Granny Smith apples – 1.2 kg
- Cinnamon – 1 teaspoon
- Fresh cranberries – 1 cup
- Powdered sugar – for dusting
Preparation
To make the dough, place the flour on a work surface, add the cold butter cut into small pieces, baking powder, and powdered sugar. Chop the ingredients with a knife until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. You can also use a stand mixer for this step. Add the egg and mix until the dough comes together. Divide the dough in half, wrap each half separately in plastic wrap, and place them in the freezer.
Prepare the pudding according to the instructions on the package, including the amount of sugar specified (be sure to bring the milk to a boil and cook the pudding until set).
Peel the apples, cut them into quarters, and remove the cores. Slice them and place them into a pot. Add the cinnamon and cook covered for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally until the apples are soft.
Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Prepare a small baking dish about 21 x 28 cm (8 x 11 inches).
Remove one half of the dough from the freezer and grate it over the bottom of the prepared dish. Smooth it out and press it down gently.
Spread the apples over the crust, then pour the pudding on top. Remove the second portion of dough from the freezer and grate it directly over the pudding. Sprinkle the cranberries on top.
Place in the oven and bake for about 45 minutes until golden brown. Dust with powdered sugar. The pie is best cut after it has cooled completely so that the pudding sets properly. It can also be made in advance.
