This rich and moist chocolate cake is baked to perfection and covered in a velvety icing that will make your taste buds dance with delight. Its generous size makes it perfect for sharing, ensuring everyone gets a slice of this decadent dessert.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the glaze:

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 3 3/4 cups icing sugar
  • 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 6 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Method:

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 10×15 inch baking tin.

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking soda and salt.

In a saucepan over medium heat, combine 1 cup butter, 3 tablespoons cocoa and 1 cup water. Bring to a boil, then remove from the heat.

Pour the butter mixture into the dry ingredients and mix well.

Stir in the sour cream, eggs and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract until smooth.

Pour the mixture into the prepared pan and bake for 20-22 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the centre comes out clean.

To make the icing, melt 1/2 cup butter in a saucepan. Add 3 tablespoons cocoa and milk and bring to a boil. Remove from the heat and stir in the icing sugar and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract until smooth.

Pour the icing over the warm cake and spread evenly.

Allow the cake to cool completely before serving.
