An inventive snack that will be a hit at any gathering (and beyond).
Ingredients
- Softened butter – 175 grams
- Powdered sugar – 6 tablespoons
- Grated orange zest – 1 teaspoon
- All-purpose flour – 250 grams
- Melted chocolate – 25 grams
Preparation
Cream together the butter and powdered sugar until fluffy. Add the orange zest and mix.
Gradually add the flour, beating until a soft, smooth dough forms. You can use your fingers to help.
Step 1 – Sweet Checkerboard Cake Divide the dough in half. Mix the melted chocolate into one half.
Wrap both dough halves in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least an hour.
Step 2 – Sweet Checkerboard Cake After chilling, roll out both dough halves into rectangles about 7-8cm wide and 1cm thick.
Brush one piece with beaten egg white and place the other dough rectangle on top.
Step 3 – Sweet Checkerboard Cake Cut the dough lengthwise and flip one piece over. Brush its edge with egg white and press it onto the other piece to resemble a checkerboard. Press firmly to seal.
Cut the dough into pieces about 2cm wide, and place them flat on a greased baking sheet with spaces between.
Step 4 – Sweet Checkerboard Cake Bake at 180°C for about 20 minutes. Check if they’re firm. Leave them on the baking sheet for a while to cool, then transfer to a serving platter.
