Poppy Seed Filling with Raisins and Walnuts

Poppy Seed Filling with Raisins and Walnuts

Homemade poppy seed filling is a reliable addition to cakes, cookies, or dumplings. Prepared from scratch, it tastes best, rich in flavor and ingredients, without excessive aromas or unnecessary fillers. The filling is delicious, quick, and very easy to prepare.

Ingredients

  • Poppy seeds: 250 grams
  • Walnuts: 80 grams
  • Candied orange peel: 100 grams
  • Raisins: 60 grams
  • Dried apricots: 60 grams
  • Dried cranberries: 50 grams
  • Honey: 100 grams
  • Sugar: 100 grams
  • Butter: 30 grams
  • Almond extract: 8 drops

Preparation

Step 1: Pour hot water, milk, or a mixture of both over the ground poppy seeds and cook for about 5 minutes. Let the poppy seeds cool, then squeeze them through a fine sieve, cheesecloth, or cotton cloth.

Step 2: Finely chop the walnuts and apricots. Melt the butter in a saucepan, add the sugar and honey, and mix briefly over low heat until the ingredients are combined.

Step 3: Add the contents of the saucepan, chopped nuts and fruits, candied orange peel to the drained poppy seeds, and mix thoroughly. You can add a few drops of flavoring or almond extract to the finished poppy seed mixture. Amaretto liqueur also works wonderfully.
