Warm your soul with the rich spices and comforting flavours of a Mulled Wine Cocktail, a timeless drink that’s perfect for toasting health and happiness. As the wine gently simmers with Cointreau, it transforms into a merry elixir that invites you to wrap your fingers around a steaming glass and savour every sip.
Ingredients:
- 100g/4oz Light Muscovado Sugar
- 1 star aniseed
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 4 cloves
- 150ml water
- 1 lemon
- 2 clementines
- 150ml Cointreau
- 750ml/ 1ΒΌ pint bottle of light red wine, such as Beaujolais
- Twist of orange zest and star anise, to serve
Method:
Thinly slice the lemon and clementines.
In a large saucepan, combine the muscovado sugar, star anise, cinnamon stick, cloves and water.
Heat gently, stirring occasionally, until the sugar dissolves.
Bring to the boil for about 2 minutes, until it has a syrupy consistency.
Reduce the heat and add the sliced lemon and clementines to the syrup.
Pour in the Cointreau and red wine.
Heat gently until the mixture is hot but not boiling.
Pour the mulled wine into heatproof glasses.
Garnish each glass with a slice of orange peel and a star aniseed.
