Homemade ice cream is a delight, and making it in a mason jar adds a charming twist to this classic treat. With just a few simple ingredients and a bit of shaking, you can make creamy, delicious ice cream without the need for an ice cream maker. This mason jar ice cream recipe is perfect for those who love the idea of homemade desserts with minimum effort and maximum flavour.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 1/2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Method:
Make sure your mason jar is clean and dry. You can use a pint-sized jar for this recipe.
Pour the heavy cream, granulated sugar, vanilla extract and a pinch of salt into the glass. Stir well until the sugar has dissolved.
Seal the jar tightly with the lid.
Shake the closed jar vigorously for about 5-7 minutes. Shake until the mixture thickens and almost doubles in volume. You’ll notice that the mixture becomes more solid and harder to shake as it reaches ice-cream consistency.
Open the jar and check the consistency of the ice cream. It should be thick and creamy.
If the ice cream has a soft-serve consistency, you can enjoy it straight from the tub. If you prefer firmer ice cream, place the sealed tub in the freezer for 1-2 hours to harden.
When the ice cream has reached the desired consistency, scoop into bowls or cones and serve immediately.
Enjoy your homemade mason jar ice cream as is or personalise it with toppings such as chocolate sauce, sprinkles or fresh fruit.
