Ice Cream In A Bag is a fun and practical way to make creamy homemade ice cream with just a few simple ingredients and a bit of shaking. This recipe is perfect for a fun family activity or a creative way to satisfy your ice cream cravings without the need for a fancy ice cream maker. With a few basic ingredients and a bit of shaking, you’ll have a delicious ice cream in no time.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup half and half
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 3 cups ice
- 1/3 cup kosher salt
- toppings of your choice (chocolate chips, sprinkles, nuts, etc.)
Method:
In a small bowl, whisk together the half-and-half, granulated sugar and vanilla extract until the sugar is dissolved.
Pour the half-and-half mixture into a quarter-sized sealable plastic bag. Squeeze out any excess air and seal the bag tightly.
Pour the ice and kosher salt into a gallon-sized sealable plastic bag.
Slide the sealed bag of ice cream mixture into the larger bag of ice and salt. Squeeze out any excess air and seal the larger bag tightly.
Hold the sealed bag with both hands and shake vigorously for about 5-10 minutes or until the mixture in the smaller bag thickens to ice cream consistency. You can wrap the bag in a towel or wear oven gloves to protect your hands from the cold.
Open the larger bag and carefully remove the smaller bag. Check the consistency of the ice cream inside. If it’s still too soft, you can reseal the bags and shake for a few more minutes.
When the ice cream has reached your desired consistency, remove the smaller bag from the ice and salt mixture. Open the bag, scoop the ice cream into bowls and garnish with your favourite toppings.
