pie bars

Perfect for any occasion, these bars bring a slice of comfort to your table. Easy to make and irresistibly delicious, they’re a true testament to the joy of baking. Enjoy the fusion of flavours in every bite!

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups all purpose flour, divided
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups unsalted butter, divided
  • 4 to 5 tablespoons ice water
  • 8 cups thinly sliced, peeled tart apples (about 8 medium)
  • 2 cups sugar, divided
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

Method:

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.

In a large bowl, combine 2 1/2 cups flour with 1/4 teaspoon salt. Cut in 1 cup butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Gradually add the ice water and mix until you have a dough.

Press the dough into the bottom of the prepared tin. Bake for 20 minutes or until golden.

While the crust is baking, toss the sliced apples with 1 cup sugar and 2 teaspoons cinnamon. Spread the apple mixture over the crust.

In a small bowl, combine the remaining 1/2 cup flour, 1/2 cup sugar and 1/2 cup butter until crumbly. Sprinkle over the apple layer.

Bake for a further 35-40 minutes or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown.

Allow to cool before cutting into bars.
