This playful recipe transforms a simple cookie dough into a whimsical treat that’s both delicious and visually appealing. Served with a variety of dips such as buttercream icing, funfetti icing, strawberry jam and Nutella, these cookie fries make for an interactive and fun dessert experience.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar, plus extra for sprinkling
- 1 large egg
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 3 cups (360g) all-purpose flour, plus extra for dusting
- 3/4 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
- Red food colouring buttercream frosting, funfetti frosting, strawberry jam and Nutella, to serve
Method:
Preheat the oven to 175°C (350°F). Line baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.
In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and 1 cup of the granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
Add the egg and pure vanilla extract and beat until well combined.
In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder and kosher salt.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, beating until just combined. Do not overmix.
Lightly flour a clean surface and roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thick.
Using a knife or pizza cutter, cut the dough into fry-shaped strips about 1/2 inch wide and 3-4 inches long.
Place the strips of dough on the prepared baking sheets, about 1 inch apart.
Sprinkle the tops with a little more granulated sugar.
Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden. Be careful not to overbake.
Leave the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
When cooled, serve the Sugar Cookie Fries with a variety of dipping options such as buttercream icing coloured red with food colouring, funfetti icing, strawberry jam and Nutella.
