The debate over zebra stripes might never end, but we can always make a delicious zebra cake where every stripe tastes perfect!
Ingredients
- Eggs – 5 pcs.
- Sugar – 300 g
- Wheat flour – 350 g
- Baking powder – 2 teaspoons
- Vanilla – 1 pod
- Orange juice – 220 ml
- Canola oil – 250 ml
Additional
- Cocoa – 30 g
- Wheat flour – 30 g
- Butter – 10 g
- Powdered sugar – 15 g
Preparation
Place egg whites in the bowl of a stand mixer. Beat at medium speed, gradually adding sugar. Once the mixture is whipped, add egg yolks. Split the vanilla pod lengthwise, scrape out the seeds, and add them to the mixture. Gently mix until combined.
Mix the flour with baking powder. Add it gradually to the beaten eggs, alternating with orange juice. Finally, add the oil and mix everything together. Transfer half of the batter into two separate bowls. To one bowl, add 3 tablespoons of flour and mix well. To the other, add 3 tablespoons of cocoa and mix well.
Grease a round cake pan with butter and lightly dust with flour. Starting from the center of the pan, spoon dollops of batter on top of each other – alternating between light and dark. Once the pan is filled, gently run a toothpick through the batter in several places along the length of the pan to create a pattern.
Bake the cake for about 55-60 minutes in an oven preheated to 180°C. Once baked, let it cool and dust with powdered sugar sifted through a fine sieve.
